Each year we take a theme as a platform for supporter engagement and several months ago we prayerfully felt that this November our messaging should be –

Take a Stand for this City – for Brisbane.

Little did we know that it would fall on the week when the world would take a stand for another city – for Paris. As horrendous as the events of last Friday night (Paris time) were, the attack was not just on the city of Paris but its citizens, their families, its institutions and their values.

Even as we stand with, and pray for Paris #prayforparis we must also pray for our city.

‘Also, do good things for the city I sent you to. Pray to the Lord for the city you are living in, because if there is peace in that city, you will have peace also.’ ERV

We understand our mandate and take our responsibilities seriously. 96five’s vision is to make Christ know through engagement and, as such, we stand together for faith ensuring Brisbane continues to have access to a quality broadcast message of hope and love.  We take a stand for Brisbane families, for relationships, stronger connections, honesty and the truth.  We challenge negativity and degrading social values – standing up for what is right and giving people something to listen to that is positive and uplifting. Ephesians 4:29 MSG says ‘Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift’.

This November we are also Taking A Stand with Teen Challenge QLD.  For 44 years Teen Challenge QLD has given young people who struggle with addiction and other life-controlling problems a second chance at life. They run residential programs for young men and women and are passionate about seeing young lives transformed.

Their program is based on Christian principles and aims to eliminate self-destructive habits by meeting the needs of the whole person – not only dealing with the addiction but also addressing the underlying issues. Addiction is a just a symptom of the real problem and Teen Challenge are passionate about helping young men and women face those issues, while  rebuilding their self-image, work ethic, spiritual awareness and relationships.

It is easy to feel hopeless when the World is groaning with injustice and turmoil – but we can look to our City and bring about the change that we want to see.  Standing together for a safer community and a better Brisbane.  With all the turmoil happening around the world in this present day it is more important than ever that we Take A Stand for what we believe in.

Please consider the practical ways that you can Stand with 96five this November by making a financial contribution to our November Appeal and hence empowering this station to continue to help build a better Brisbane.
